Istanbul Introduction

Istanbul, enjoying a magnificent location on the Bosphorous where Europe meets Asia, is rich in history and is a wonderful year-round destination. It’s an ancient city with traditional, picturesque old quarters, a wonderfully atmospheric waterfront overlooking the Bosphorous, great shopping, superb restaurants and some beautiful, traditional Turkish architecture.

Why Choose Istanbul?

There’s something for everyone in Istanbul. Apart from the superb location, there’s the fabulous waterfront right on the Bosphorous, great shopping especially in the magnificent Grand Bazaar, vibrant nightlife, delicious local and international cuisine, unrivalled history and culture and a number of excellent city tours. And, of course, the famous Turkish hospitality.

Best Time to Travel

Istanbul can be visited at any time of the year although the best times to see this wonderful city are Spring and Autumn when the climate is just about perfect. Winters can be a little cold (but ideal for sightseeing) whilst, from May to September, the weather is hot and sunny.

The Resort

Istanbul is one of the great cities of the world with its fabulous setting, wonderful history and culture, non-stop vibrant nightlife and the unbelievably photogenic Bosphorous which separates Europe from Asia. Turkish cuisine is world renowned and there are many superb restaurants dotted around around the city which would compete with the best in Paris, London and New York. There are also wonderful buildings and monuments and some excellent museums with their fascinating exhibits of Byzantine and Ottoman history.

Eating & Drinking

From small, family-run cafes to superb international restaurants, from kebab shops to sophisticated cocktail bars, Istanbul has a great and varied selection of places to eat and drink to satisfy every taste. There’s something for everyone, including delicious local Turkish cuisine and restaurants serving international dishes from around the world.

There’s a wide choice of things to do and see in Istanbul and, apart from the Bosphorous cruises which are very popular, you can also sample several city tours taking in such famous landmarks as the Topkapi Palace, the Sultanahmet district, Haghia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Galata Tower and Taksim Square, the heart of modern Istanbul.

Night Life & Shopping

There are bars and night clubs to appeal to all tastes in Istanbul. From jazz to pop, from classical to rock, there is definitely something for everyone. For serious shoppers, there’s a huge array of shops and stalls selling everything from local spices to the finest leather jackets and, in the Grand Bazaar, Istanbul boasts one of the finest (and biggest) shopping ‘centres’ anywhere in the world.
