Holidays in Icmeler

Icmeler Introduction

Icmeler is a delightful resort and, although only a short distance from Marmaris, is quite different in that it’s smaller, less commercial and has a lovely laid-back feel to it. It has a long sandy beach which stretches along the whole resort, some low-key but lively nightlife, an attractive market (alongside the small river) and a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

Why Choose Icmeler?

It’s really the best of both worlds in Icmeler – the laid back atmosphere and the easygoing way of life but with Marmaris, with its shopping and nightlife, just a short hop away either by boat or by dolmus. All ages are catered for in Icmeler and there’s a wide choice of hotels and apartments. There’s a great beach, some excellent excursions and boat trips, a market, some shops and, best of all, a resort which has one of the prettiest settings in Turkey.

Best Time to Travel

April to October is the best time to visit Icmeler although it will be less crowded and less hot if you avoid the peak season. The weather is ideal in May and June with long days and temperatures in the high 70s. In September and October, the high season crowds have departed and the sea is really warm.

The Resort

Icmeler’s location could not be better. It enjoys a fabulous setting between the blue Mediterranean and the imposing mountains behind the resort. A lovely sandy beach runs the entire length of the resort and there’s an attractive promenade with bars and restaurants. There’s local transport to nearby towns and villages and boats regularly cross the bay to Marmaris. There’s also a good selection of shops and restaurants, a market and some low-key nightlife.

Eating & Drinking

Icmeler offers a wide selection of places to eat and drink from doner kebab stalls to excellent local and international restaurants. There are also family-run cafes and more up-market bars for the discerning visitor. There’s something for everyone and, a huge plus, it’s all within easy walking distance.

Excursions

Apart from the many boat trips available, you can also visit and / or try your hand at white water rafting, Jeep Safari, Turkish Bath, Dalyan (the Kaunos rock tombs and mud baths), Ephesus & Pamukkale and Rhodes (in Greece) by hydrofoil.

Night Life & Shopping

Icmeler’s nightlife is quite low-key but there’s still a good selection of music bars and a couple of discos. However, for serious night owls Marmaris, with its great club and bar scene, is just a short distance away either by taxi or dolmus. Shopping in the local market is great fun and it’s in a lovely setting, too. However, for serious shoppers, Marmaris, just across the bay, offers a wide array of shops and stalls of every kind.
