Sharm El Sheikh Introduction

With more than 5,000 years of magical history and boasting a climate - with almost unbroken sunshine - which ranks among the best in the world, it is little wonder that this is one of the world’s most visited travel destinations. Sharm El Sheikh, lying on the eastern side of the Red Sea, is Egypt’s premier resort and justifiably so. It’s modern, vibrant and ideally placed to enjoy all the many facilities and sightseeing that can be organised from here. What was once a tiny village is now a major resort and offers its visitors a wide selection of excellent facilities and an imposing array of top international hotels.

Why Choose Sharm El Sheikh?

For watersports enthusiasts, Sharm El Sheikh is hard to beat. Snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing are just three of the attractions but there’s a lot more than that. The superb climate, delicious local cuisine, great shopping and impressive sightseeing & excursions are also high on the agenda and, a huge plus, it’s only just over 5 hours from the UK. There’s something for everyone in Sharm El Sheikh and it really does cater for all ages and all tastes.

Best Time to Travel

July and August can be very hot in Egypt so the best time to visit Sharm El Sheikh is any time between September and June. The weather is perfect in spring and autumn with ideal temperatures and cloudless skies but the winter months, too, are perfect for sunbathing, swimming and sightseeing. The inviting Red Sea is warm throughout the year.

The Resort

Sharm El Sheikh is situated on the eastern coast of the Red Sea and was originally developed around the diving trade. Whilst this is still a major attraction, the resort welcomes visitors all year round due to its amazing climate and the wide range of amenities and facilities on offer. The crystal clear water around the reefs is home to over 1,000 species of colourful fish in addition to turtles, manta rays and dolphins. Without doubt, Sharm is a great destination especially if you’re looking for guaranteed winter sunshine.

Eating & Drinking

Egyptian, Lebanese, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Thai, Indian, all these cuisines are to be found in Sharm – and more! From humble tavernas to superb international restaurants, from pavement cafes to sophisticated cocktail bars, Sharm El Sheikh has a selection of places to eat and drink to satisfy every taste. There’s something for everyone – even KFC, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut! And, generally speaking, they all offer great value for money.

Excursions

There’s a whole host of places to visit from Sharm el Sheikh and there’s so much to see and do it’s difficult to know where to start. Two absolute musts are Cairo & the Pyramids (by air or coach) and Luxor & the River Nile. In Luxor, you’ll be able to experience, amongst others, the Karnak Temples, the Valley of the Kings and, of course, Tutankhamun’s tomb. There are also local excursions in and around Sharm such as swimming with dolphins and the star watching experience and you can also visit Petra (in Jordan) and the famous St. Catherine’s Monastery.

Night Life & Shopping

The larger hotels in Sharm El Sheikh offer nightly entertainment programmes to suit all tastes. For a more cosmopolitan night out, Naama Bay is a lively area packed with lively bars, clubs and restaurants. The atmosphere here is great and you can choose to dance till dawn, sip cocktails under the stars or simply wander around the quaint, narrow streets and pick up a bargain or two from the assortment of colourful market stalls.
