Tunisia has more than 3,000 years of history, from the Phoenicians who founded Carthage to the Roman towns left across the country. Most of it can be seen on a day out from the beach resorts, so a week on the coast can include some sightseeing. These are the most popular excursions.
Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Said
A full-day trip that usually combines three stops: the Bardo Museum, known for its Roman mosaics, the ancient ruins of Carthage, and the blue-and-white village of Sidi Bou Said. It is a good choice for a first excursion because the three stops are close together. Lunch is normally included.
Sahara overnight safari
A two-day excursion that visits the Roman amphitheatre at El Jem and the troglodyte homes of Matmata, then a camel ride into the dunes and a night at a desert hotel. It is a long trip, so book early because places are limited.
Friguia Zoo Park and Zulu night
A half day plus evening, suited to families. A visit to the safari park is followed by an African show with dinner and drinks.
Longer tours
If you want to see more of the country, there are week-long tours covering El Jem, Matmata, Douz, Tozeur, Kairouan, Nabeul, Hammamet and Tunis, usually in 4-star and 5-star hotels.

How to book
Excursions are not part of our holiday packages and we do not sell them. Once you are in Tunisia, ask at your hotel reception or tour desk for a licensed local tour operator. Choose your resort first, because the transfer time to each destination depends on where you stay. See our excursions page for the full list.
