Travelling to Tunisia From the UK: A Practical Checklist

15 October 2026

A Tunisia holiday needs little preparation, but a few things are worth checking in the weeks before you fly. This checklist covers the basics for UK travellers and points you to the official sources for anything that can change.

Passport

UK citizens need a full passport for stays of up to six months. Other nationalities should check with the Tunisian Embassy at least three weeks before departure. Check your passport and the names on your booking before you travel.

Health

No vaccinations are necessary to enter Tunisia, but please ask your doctor for up-to-date advice. Bottled water is recommended.

Money

The Tunisian dinar can only be obtained in Tunisia. Cash is readily exchanged in banks, hotels and bureaux de change, and receipts need to be kept if you want to change leftover dinars back. There are ATMs in the larger towns and credit cards are widely accepted.

Time, language and plugs

  • Time: Tunisia is one hour ahead of the UK in winter, with no difference in summer.
  • Language: Arabic is the official language and French is widely spoken. English is common in tourist areas.
  • Plugs: The voltage is 220 volts, the same as the UK, but you will need a two-pin continental adapter.

Respecting local customs

Tunisians have a relaxed attitude and casual clothing is normal. Around hotel pools and private beaches swimwear is fine, but respectable dress is expected at religious sites.

Insurance and official advice

Arrange travel insurance before you go; our travel insurance page explains what to look for. For entry rules and safety information, check the GOV.UK foreign travel advice for Tunisia shortly before you travel, because official advice can change.
